Vicki Coleen Spargo

Vicki Coleen Spargo, 51, of Abilene, passed away at her home Tuesday, April 27th, 2010 after a valiant twenty-two-month battle against cancer. A memorial service honoring Vicki's life is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday May 1st, 2010 at Piersall- Benton Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St., with a visitation to follow at the funeral home.

Vicki was born July 26, 1958 in Kingsville, Texas to Curtis and Laretta McCoy Blackburn. She was raised in Kingsville and League City and attended Abilene Christian University where she graduated with a degree in Elementary Education in 1980.

Vicki met her future husband, Gary Spargo, at her parents’ home in Kingsville in December 1979 while she was home from ACU on Christmas break. They were married at the Kingsville Church of Christ on November 1, 1980. They lived their lives together in Texas, California, Minnesota, Colorado and Arizona and raised two sons, Fletcher Ryan Spargo and John Roland Spargo. In August 1996 they moved from Prescott, Arizona to Abilene to place their sons in Abilene Christian Schools. While in Abilene, Vicki taught at Abilene Christian Schools for several years and then worked as a real estate agent. She was a member of Highland Church of Christ and was active in the Becoming a Woman of Grace Bible class.

Surviving Vicki are her husband Gary and their two sons, Fletcher Ryan and John Roland Spargo; her parents, Curtis and Laretta Blackburn; a brother, Dale Blackburn and wife Mittie, and an aunt, Wynetta Blackburn, all of Abilene, as well as numerous extended family members and close friends. Vicki was preceded in death by her grandparents Claud and Dessie Blackburn and Carl and Ruth McCoy, and two uncles, Dan Blackburn and Lawrence McCoy.
