Donnie Lucille Berryman

May 10, 1920 — January 15, 2010

Donnie Lucille Berryman, 89 of Abilene, passed away Friday January 15th, 2010 at a local nursing center. A service is scheduled for 11:00 am Tuesday January 19th at Piersall Benton Chapel, Butternut St. with burial to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Merkel. Visitation will be held on Monday from 6-7:30 pm at the funeral home.

Lucille was born May 10th, 1920 in Corpus Christi , Texas to Charlie Baker and Sarah Della Stephens Baker. On March 15, 1944 she married the love of her life Alton Ward Berryman in Abilene and they enjoyed 60 years of marriage together. Lucille was a homemaker who enjoyed music and was always singing while working around the house. She and her family were members of 16th and Vine Church of Christ in Abilene where she taught Sunday School.

Surviving Lucille are her two children, daughter Gaile Thompson and husband Bill of Abilene, son Frank Berryman of Abilene and one grandson Cole Thompson, currently a student at The University of Texas. She was so proud of her family and was especially partial to her nieces and nephews; Billie and Boyd Moore of Fredericksburg, Kermit Rutledge of Abilene, Errol and Ann Rutledge of Abilene, Donna and David Riney of Merkel, Linda Rutledge Smith of Aspermont, Rita Jan Boykin of Texas City, Fred Ramalho and Mike Ramalho of Tacoma, Washington, Velma Lou McQueen of San Antonio, Billy and Sissy Broyles of Junction, and Jimmy Broyles of San Angelo. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and was the last surviving family member of eight sisters and one brother.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Royal Estates, Wisteria, Big Country and Hendrick Hospice for their loving attention during her illness.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in honor of Mrs. Berryman’s love for animals and children to the Taylor County Humane Society, Rescue the Animals or the Abilene Education Foundation. Condolences can be offered to the family online at www.pbfuneraldirectors.com.
