Nettie "Sadie" Nesmith

Nettie Elnora "Sadie" NeSmith, 92 of Abilene, passed away at her home on Wednesday November 25th, 2009. A graveside service is scheduled for 3:00 pm Friday November 27th, 2009 at Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of Piersall Benton Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St. with Pastor Johnathan Neely officiating. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:00 am to noon on Friday November 27th.

Sadie was born on June 4th, 1917 to Robert Hunt and Emma Davis Hunt in Waco, Texas. She was raised by her brothers after the death of her father when she was 15. At 18 she moved to Stamford to live with her sister and it is there that she met and married her husband JB NeSmith. In 1939 she and JB moved to Abilene where together they raised their family. She had a number of jobs throughout the years working for various cleaners in town, as well as Hendrick Hospital. Her favorite job was taking care of her family.

Preceding Sadie in death were her parents, her husband, two brothers, two sisters, and two grandchildren. She is survived by two sons; Woodie and Kathy NeSmith, and Wayne NeSmith, three daughters; Nettie Metcalfe, Pat Mitcham, and Gloria and Calvin McCutchen, as well as 19 grandchildren, 66 great-grandchildren, 27 great-great grandchildren and many extended family members and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her but her legacy will live on forever.
