Jerry Randall O'Bryant

December 15, 1938 — October 24, 2009

Jerry O'Bryant 70, of Abilene, passed away on Saturday October 24th in Cortez, Colorado while on his annual elk hunting trip. A graveside service is scheduled for Friday October 30th, 2009 at 2:00 pm in the Iberis Cemetery under the direction of Piersall Benton Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St. A visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.

Jerry was born in Fort Worth, Texas on December 15th, 1938 to John and Dorothy O' Bryant. He was raised in Texas where he developed a love for the outdoors. He served in the United States Air Force for six years during which time he was trained as a Meteorologist. After leaving the service he went to work for the National Weather Service where he stayed until his retirement after 44 years. Jerry had a second career with the Abilene Reporter News where he wrote a column for over 25 years on hunting and fishing.

Hunting and fishing were a passion of Jerry's, but the best catch of his life was Reba, his wife of over 44 years. He enjoyed spending time with Reba and his daughter Dallas as well as his close friends. Jerry will be lovingly remembered by his wife, his daughter and son-in-law Dallas and Carroll Swafford of San Angelo, his sister Dorothy Jean Mathis of Granbury as well as numerous extended family members and friends. He was preceded by his parents, and a sister Johnnie Bringhurst.
