Roy Otis Baker, 75 of Abilene, passed away at his home after a lengthy illness on Friday, March 3, 2017. A visitation with the family will be held on Sunday, March 5, 2017 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street. Roy will be interred on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery of Abilene, under the direction of Piersall Funeral Directors.
Roy Baker was born on April 24, 1941 to Julian and Oreada Baker in Lampasas, Texas. Roy served in the United State Navy during the Vietnam War on the aircraft carriers USS Coral Sea and the USS Ranger. Roy was a self-made computer geek and researcher. He loved learning new things and raising his chickens for fresh eggs.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Twyler (Sandy) Thomas Baker and their son, Roy David Baker. He is survived by his wife Eleanor Baker, whom he married in 2011; children Evelyn Baker Rocha of Washington, Trudie Baker Brown and husband Charles of Tuscola and Steven Baker of Austin; brother Robert Baker of Houston; cousin Leann Collier Patterson of Trent; six grandchildren, Kelly Brown and wife Britni of Merkel, Stephanie Brown of Tuscola, twins Dax and Delaney Baker of Austin, twins Hailey and Brendon Baker of Austin and one great-granddaughter, whom Roy adored, Brystol Brown of Merkel.
