Samuel Bert (Sam) Berry, Jr.

Samuel Bert (Sam) Berry, Jr. 72 of Abilene, passed away at his home on Sunday October 23, 2016. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday October 26, 2016 in the Chapel at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St with Vann Jansen officiating.

Sam was born June 26, 1944 in Lubbock, Texas to Samuel Bert Berry, Sr and Ruth Mildred McKee Berry. After graduating high school, he married the love of his life Patricia Ann Ferguson in Lubbock on July 6, 1963. In 1964, Sam began his 44 year career in telecommunications. Because of his skill in the new fiber optics transmission system he was highly sought after and after retirement from Southwestern Bell in 1997 he moved to Abilene to go to work for AT&T as a contract instructor. Sam was an avid sportsman and he shared that love of hunting and fishing with his wife Patricia, son Shawn, his grandchildren and many close friends.

Surviving Sam are his wife Patricia Berry, son Samuel Shawn Berry, daughter Lacey Nann Berry, sister Mary Susan Goodrum and grandchildren; Kurt, Samantha, Taylor, Trevor, Jada and Jaxon. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Colby Blyne Berry and a sister Charla Jean Johnson. Sam will be truly missed by his family and many close friends.
