Quinterra "Quincy" Smith

The Lord brought us His Child, Quinterra "Quincy" Smith on February 19, 1978. Quincy accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior early on. At a young age, Quincy found a love for sports. He played Pop Warner Football and was on various Abilene recreation baseball teams and leagues during that time. His love for sports continued at Cooper High School where he ran track, lettered in Baseball, Basketball and Football. His passion and athletic accomplishments in football led to a scholarship at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, NM where he pursued a degree in business while playing football. Quincy transferred to Hardin Simmons University where he assisted the team in winning a championship. He finished his business degree at Dallas Community College.

On July 1, 2009 the Lord called for Quincy to come Home so he would suffer no more. He Was preceded in death by fraternal and maternal grandfathers Eli Mims and J.C. Smith, Sr., His fraternal uncle Anthony Mims, Sr. and Maternal Aunt Sherrel Smith. He is survived by his loving wife Lisa Carroll-Smith and his two beautiful daughters Alanna Smith and Jasmine Evans. Quincy is also survived by his parents Richard Lee and Sandra Jean Mims, Two brothers; Keith Mims (Kaori) of Buffalo, NY and Jacob Curry of Abilene, Four Sisters; Stephanie Brown (Vaughn) of Bridgeport, CT, Kimberly Mims of New York, NY, Angela Staples (Reginald) of Fort Knox, KY, and Sandra Mims, Jr. of Abilene; his grandmothers, Evelyn Jones of Abilene, and Esther Mims of Birmingham, AL; Aunts and Uncles Brooke Eckford and husband James, Judy Lewis and husband Tommy, J.C. Smith, Jr, and Tamara Smith all of Abilene. Quincy had nine nieces and four nephews and thirteen cousins.

Quincy was involved in multiple business ventures that are still underway. During his short life he made numerous wonderful and loving friends that stretch from coast to coast. He was loved, admired, and respected by everyone who knew him and he will forever be loved and missed. A funeral service honoring Quincy's life is scheduled for 1:00 pm Wednesday July the 8th at Piersall Benton Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St. A visitation will be held from 6-8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
