Era Mae Bailey

Era Mae Bailey, 88 of Abilene, passed away at her home on Thursday, September 8th, 2016. A funeral service will be held Sunday, September 11th at 1:00 pm in the auditorium at Baker Heights Church of Christ. Burial will follow at Hill Cemetery in Parker County at 4:30 pm. Visitation with the family will be Saturday, September 10th from 6-8pm at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St.

Era Mae was born on August 21, 1928 in Parker County, Texas to Henry Abner Hill and Viola Lee Soseby Hill. She met the love of her life Loyd Bailey right after he was honorably discharged from the Navy and they married on December 30, 1950 in Weatherford.

For the next 50 years Loyd and Era Mae lived in Graham, Cleburne and later, Fort Worth. While Loyd was working, Era Mae focused on running the household and caring for their three children. She was a wonderful mother and an amazing Christian woman. In 2001, Loyd and Era moved to Abilene to be closer to family. They were active members of Baker Heights Church of Christ.

Surviving Era Mae are her sons Gary Bailey and wife Vicki, Larry Bailey and wife Suzanne, and daughter, Brenda Ladd and husband Dennis. Surviving sisters are Mary Chenault, Margaret Eberhart and Donna Ruth Chambers and brothers William (Bill) Hill and Marlin Hill. Grandchildren are Shawn, Erin, Emilee, Ellicia, Kacie, Mandy and Joshua. Great-grandchildren are David, Alexandria, Abigail, Annabelle, and Mattie Mae. Also surviving Era Mae are many nieces, nephews and a host of other extended family members and close friends. Preceding her in death were her parents, a brother Joshua (Sonny) Hill and uncle William Joshua Hill.
