Rollie Loyd Bailey

Rollie ‘Loyd’ Bailey, 90 of Abilene, passed away at his home on Wednesday, August 31st, 2016. A funeral service will be held Sunday, September 4th at 1:00 pm in the auditorium at Baker Heights Church of Christ. Burial will follow at Hill Cemetery in Parker County. Visitation with the family will be Saturday, September 3rd from 6-8pm at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St.

Loyd was born on July 3, 1926 in Amarillo, Texas to Leland and Naomi Bailey. He was raised in Dublin, Texas and after graduating from high school entered the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II. After his time in the Navy, Loyd met and married the love of his life, Era Mae Hill on December 30, 1950 in Weatherford.

For the next 50 years Loyd and Era Mae lived in Graham, Texas and later, Fort Worth. Loyd spent 43 years working for Southwestern Bell. In 2001 Loyd and Era moved to Abilene to be closer to family. They were active members of Baker Heights Church of Christ.

Surviving Loyd are his wife Era Mae Bailey, sons Gary Bailey and wife Vicki, Larry Bailey and wife Suzanne, and daughter, Brenda Ladd and husband Dennis. Surviving sisters are Mary Ward and JoAnn Jones. Grandchildren are Shawn, Erin, Emilee, Ellicia, Kacie, Mandy and Joshua. Great-grandchildren are David, Alexandria, Abigail, Annabelle, and Mattie Mae. Also surviving Loyd are many nieces, nephews and a host of other extended family members and close friends. Preceding him in death were his parents and sister Merle Edgmon.
