Janice Marie Dunn

Janice Marie Dunn, 69 of Abilene, passed away at her home on Friday, August 5, 2016. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street. Burial services will be at 2:00 p.m. at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery. A visitation with the family will be held Monday, August 8, 2016 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Piersall Funeral Directors.

Janice was born on November 19, 1946 in Pasadena, Texas to John and Viola Phillips. On July 3, 1964, she married Edward Dunn in Cleveland, Texas. While Edward served his country in Vietnam, Janice stayed home to care for the couple's children. Janice and Edward moved around Texas and settled in the West Texas area in 1984. In 1989, they moved to Abilene. When Janice became too ill to take care of herself, Edward was there by her side, 24 hours a day, doing whatever it took to care for Janice, with the help of daughter Trixie, who was by her mother’s side daily, and Rhonda and Edward, Jr., who visited frequently to help care for mom. According to Edward, she was the best wife a man could have.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, John and Viola Phillips; brothers Ernie Phillips and Ronald Eugene Phillips; sister Barbara Ann Phillips; daughter Rose Kathleen Dunn; grandson Stephen Dunn; brother-in-law Jessy Dunn and sister-in-law Rose Marie Dunn. She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Edward Leon Dunn; children Edward Dunn, Jr. of Amarillo, Rhonda MacAlister and husband Wayne of Phoenix City, Alabama and Trixie Shannon and husband Mark of Abilene; brothers Mike Phillips and John Phillips; sisters Donna Boyd, Ruthie Simmons, Diane Sowders, Wanda Kay Phillips, Sandra Ramsey, Rita Pitara and Janet Munoz; brothers-in-law James, Ronny, George and Arthur Dunn; sister-in-law Judy Stafford; grandchildren Justin, Jaylynn and Nicholas Dunn and Anna and Cole Shannon; and great-grandchildren Rylee, Ireland and Asher Leon Dunn.
