Jerry Murl Pruitt

Jerry Murl Pruitt, 81, passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. The family held a private memorial service at Elmwood Memorial Park in Abilene, Texas under the direction of Piersall Funeral Directors.

Jerry was born in Abilene, Texas on January 21, 1936 to Murl Londas and Mary Ruth Etter Pruitt. He attended Abilene public schools, graduating from Abilene High School in 1953. Jerry received his Bachelor in Business Administration from McMurry College in 1960. He completed the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking program in 1968, and he attended SMU School of Law.

Jerry, a retired banker, worked at Hamlin National Bank, First National Bank of Cisco, and Southwest State Bank in Brownwood.

Jerry was a Master Mason and past master of the Grand Lodge of Texas Cisco No. 556. He was also a Suez Shriner and member of the Scottish Right of Freemasonry, Valley of Waco, Orient of Texas. Jerry had been active in the First United Methodist Church in Cisco serving on various boards and committees. He had been a member and past president of the Cisco Lions Club. He also served as a Cisco City Councilman.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Mary Carolyn Blain Pruitt; his parents; and his brother, Donald Gene Pruitt.

Survivors include: three daughters, Pamela Diane Pruitt Whittington and husband Vernon of Austin, Texas; Mary Patricia Pruitt Adams and husband John of Austin, Texas; Paula Jeanne Pruitt of Pflugerville, Texas; and grandson, Blandonn Wade Smith of Round Rock, Texas.
