Faydell Turney, 97, a longtime resident of Morton, Levelland and Hereford, passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Silver Springs Nursing Home in Abilene, Texas. A graveside service will be held at the Morton Memorial Cemetery in Morton, Texas on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 2:00 p.m., under the direction of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street, Abilene, Texas.
Faydell was born on October 26, 1918 in Fargo, Texas to Dr. Dempsey and Lillie Jordon, one of 14 siblings. The family later settled in Morton where Faydell attended high school and met Roy Turney. On January 11, 1936, the couple was married in Levelland, Texas. Faydell and Roy would later move to Morton where she worked as a dispatcher and jailer for the Cochran County Sheriff's Office for over 20 years.
Faydell was involved in her community and her church in every place she lived. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, an Independent Order of Odd Fellows and a faithful member at the First Baptist Church in Hereford and in Abilene, as well as a former member of the Missionary Baptist Church in Morton.
Faydell was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Dempsey Jordan and Lillie Nora Jordan; her husband, Roy C. Turney; an infant son, Roy Turney; son-in-law Gerrie Hensley and by her 13 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her 4 children; daughter Betty Hensley of Jacksonville, Texas; son Benny Turney and wife Bonnie of Abilene, Texas; Joe Turney and wife Michelle of Key West, Florida and Dean Turney and wife Becky of Hereford, Texas, as well as 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
