Henry Harold (Butch) Hendrix, Jr. M.D.

Dr. Henry Harold (Butch) Hendrix, Jr., 56, beloved husband, dad, brother, son, uncle, friend, and physician passed away Friday, February 26, 2016.

There will be a visitation on Friday, March 4 from 6–8 p.m. at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St, Abilene, Texas 79602. A memorial celebration will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Highland Church of Christ, 425 Highland Ave, Abilene, Texas 79605.

Butch was born December 15, 1959 to Harold and Mary Joan (Houpt) Hendrix in Topeka, Kansas. He graduated from Topeka High School. He received a bachelor of science degree in biology from Abilene Christian University and a medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City, Kansas. He completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery from the Texas Tech School of Medicine in Lubbock, Texas. Butch worked for five years in Irving, Texas before moving to Abilene, Texas in 1996. He has been an orthopaedic surgeon in Abilene for 20 years.

He is survived by his wife Becky (Garrett) Hendrix and his four children Blake Garrett Hendrix of Abilene, Texas; Hannah Rebekah Hendrix Cherry and husband Alan Cherry of Atlanta, Georgia; Jason Thomas Hendrix of Abilene, Texas; and Sarah Elizabeth Hendrix of Austin, Texas; his parents Harold and Joan Hendrix of Abilene, Texas; his sister Connie Ellis and nephew Andrew Ellis of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; his sister Linda Hendrix and her husband Bruce Loder of San Antonio, Texas; and in-laws Dr. Richard and Elizabeth Garrett of Abilene, Texas.

Butch was a loving, kind and wise husband and father. He was a wonderful, and compassionate physician, a gifted surgeon who made this life better for many. He will be missed by many who enjoyed his humor and especially his practical jokes. His wife and children will be forever thankful that he loved and took care of them and that he loved the Lord. Butch grew in wisdom in stature and in favor with God and man.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in memoriam to either Camp Blue Haven, 62 Camp South Street, Las Vegas, NM 87701, or to Wishing Well International, 3001 S.W. 15 St., Ste. C, Deerfield Beach, FL 33442.
