LaQuita Joy Lucas was born on January 1, 1933 in Rising Star, Texas to Ozzie and Ollie Burns. She died on January 2, 2016 at the age of eighty three years and one day. She graduated from Sundown High School in Sundown, Texas as valedictorian of her graduating class. She gave up a full scholarship to Texas Tech University to marry a blue eyed cowboy, Bobby Lucas. They were married 57 years.
Quita, Mom, Momma, or Nana lived a life filled with joy...just like her middle name. She was an encourager, a nurturer, and a giver. Her children rise up and call her blessed. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
LaQuita is survived by her sister, Peggy Wilson, her son, Guy Lucas and his wife, Cheryl, her daughter, Becky and her husband, Jim. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Andy Russell, Katie Cassady, Amy Johnson and her husband, Greg, and Haley Lucas, six great grandchildren as well as a host of other family members and friends.
Pallbearers will be: Andy Russell, Greg Johnson, Mark Moyle, Joel Weissman, Bob Clark, Jack Clark and Frazier Clark
The family visitation will be a from 5-7pm Monday at the Piersall Funeral Home. The celebration of her life will be 10:30am Tuesday at the Piersall Funeral Home. Burial will be Tuesday afternoon in Rising Star Cemetery in Rising Star, Texas at 2:00pm.
