Jerry Don Templin, 59 of Abilene, went to join our Lord in Heaven on Monday, December 14, 2015. A service honoring his life will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street. Burial will follow at the Cisco Cemetery. A visitation with the family will be on Friday, December 18, 2015 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Jerry was born on March 14, 1956 in Tacoma, Washington to Gus Templin, Jr. and Imogene York Templin. Jerry lived in Abilene for most of his life. On September 30, 1978, Jerry married Bonnell Callaway and together they raised 3 children, Jeremy, Ashleigh and Kaitlan.
Most of Jerry’s working life was in the oilfields of Texas, working his way up from the bottom to a consultant for Bandera Energy, where he worked for many years. He was also an excellent carpenter. Jerry loved working on and restoring old cars, hunting and fishing with friends, collecting guns and watching old John Wayne westerns and listening to Johnny Cash songs.
Jerry was a hard worker, never sitting still for long. He always had a project going and provided well for his family. He was a wonderful husband and father, an awesome man and a great friend. He was always willing to help others and was well respected in the community. Jerry’s loss has been felt by his family and friends, but acceptance comes from knowing he is in the arms of the Lord and someday, we will see him again.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Gus and Imogene Templin and by a nephew, Joe Havner. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Bonnell Templin, son Jeremy Templin and daughter Rylea; daughter Ashleigh Templin and husband Kris Coffman and daughters Keltie and Serenity; and daughter Kaitlan Templin and son Kasin, all of Abilene; two sisters, Vonda Thetford and husband Travis of San Angelo and Debra Rister of Abilene, and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Jeremy Templin, Kris Coffman, Ken McMurry, John Tweedie, Earnest Linley and Aaron Rollins. Honorary pallbearers are Travis Thetford, Troy Schroedter, Craig McMillan, Cody Sylvest and Michael Spivey.
The family would like to offer their deepest gratitude to Dr. John Wray and medical assistant Carol for their long-term care and love for Jerry, and to Hendrick Hospice for their care and compassion.
