Johnny D. Smoot, 52 of Clyde, passed away Thursday April 2nd, 2009 at Hendrick Medical Center. His service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Thursday April 9th at Hwy 36 Church of Christ officiated by Billy Berny with burial to follow at the Dudley Cemetery. A visitation will be held Wednesday from 6-8 pm at Piersall Benton Funeral Home, 733 Butternut St.
Johnny Smoot was born June 5th, 1956 in Odessa, Texas to William "Bill" Smoot, Jr. and Judy McMillan Smoot. His family moved to the Abilene area while Johnny was still young and he grew up and spent most of his life in and around Abilene. Johnny was an outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt. He loved watching baseball and playing his guitar for family and friends. He truly enjoyed his work as a field superintendent for Lydick Hooks. One of his favorite jobs though was that of "Pop" to his eight grandkids. Johnny was a member and Deacon for 11 years of Hwy 36 Church of Christ where he enjoyed worshiping with his family and using his gifts to lead singing.
Johnny will be greatly missed by his wife LaJuanda Smoot, four children and their families; Rusty and Sheralyn Smoot and their children Zane, Natalie, Dawson Cade, and Carley, Doug and Kassi Smoot and their children Kambri and Landri, April and Zach Hayhurst and their children Dawson Cole and Paige, and Chris Smoot. He will also be lovingly remembered by his mother, a brother Garry Smoot and his wife Cheryl, and two sisters Tammie King and husband Brian, and Alaina Vogler and her husband Dan along with numerous neices and nephews as well as a host of extended family members and close friends. Johnny was preceded in death by his father and a brother Tony Smoot.
