Dr. Henry Speck

Henry E. Speck, Jr. 91, of Abilene, passed away Wednesday March 18, 2009 at Hendrick Medical Center. Henry was born in Abilene, February 15, of 1918 to Henry E. Speck, Sr. and Willie Wallace Speck. His memorial service will be held on Monday, March 23 at 10:00 a.m. at University Church of Christ under the direction of Piersall-Benton Funeral Directors. Dr. Eddie Sharp will officiate.

Henry received his doctorate from the University of Texas in Austin. He served as an Army Chaplin and was a Major when he was discharged. Henry married Beatrice (Bea) Force on January 1, 1936 in San Marcos, Texas. He taught Bible at Abilene Christian University for 33 years. He was a long time member of the University Church of Christ and a preacher and Bible-class teacher for several Church’s of Christ in Abilene and the surrounding area.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Beatrice of Abilene and their son Henry Speck III and his wife Ingeborg and his grandson Christopher of Dallas and a sister Mattie Sue Sears of Dallas.
