Melva K. Copeland, 69, of Anson passed away Thursday March 19th, 2009 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene. A service has been scheduled for Saturday March 21st at 10:00 am at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church on Hwy 277 North with burial to follow at the Hawley Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday from 6-7:30 pm at Piersall Benton Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St. Melva was born on August 19th, 1939 in Abilene to Lee Edward Rhodes and Lottie Opal Earnest Rhodes. She grew up in Jones County and graduated from Hawley High School. On July 18,1988, Melva married James Copeland in Abilene, Texas. Together they had 10 children that were their pride and joy. Melva enjoyed her career working in quality control for Crown Cork and Seal in Abilene. She retired from there after 27 years of service. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband James of Anson, 10 children: Sandy and husband Andy Rae of Terlingua, TX, Linda and husband Richard Estes of Sumner, TX, Jamie and Husband Abdulla Subuh of Wichita, KS, Tammie and husband Ken Sarna of Mansfield, TX, James Copeland of Houston, TX, Dwayne Black of Orlando, Fl, Cathy and husband Scott Fryar of Wichita, KS, Barbara and Husband Roy Guth of Branson, MO, Keith and wife Hollie Black of Mansfield, TX and Trisha Copeland of Berryville, AR, a brother Tex Rhodes of Jacksonville, FL, 20 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren as well as a host of extended family members and friends.
