Irene Melton

Bobbie Laverne Irene Melton, 78, of Abilene passed away February 7th, 2009 at a local care center. Graveside services are scheduled for 3:00 pm Friday, February the 13th at the Abilene City Cemetery under the direction of Piersall Benton Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St.

Bobbie was born in Paris, Delta County, Texas to Pete and Ora Newman Hart on June 17th, 1930. She moved to Abilene at a young age and went to school to become a nurse. She enjoyed working as a nurse and caring for others as well as leading Bible studies at the Adult Daycare Center. She had many people that she “adopted” through the years since she and her husband, Tom Melton, didn’t have any children of their own.

Mrs. Melton will be lovingly remembered by her nieces, Marilyn Hunt of Sweetwater, Myra Kay Sheppard of Abilene, Wanda & husband, Edward, Helen Wattley of Midland, Connie Fay Hart of Midland, and brother-in-law Bertram “Red” Warner of Big Spring. She is also survived by many other great-nephews and great-nieces and a host of special friends.

Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, Eudora “Bunch” Hunt, and Faye Warner and three brothers, Elgin “Booker”, Cecil, and Freeman Hart.
