Leroy Joseph "Lucky" Moore

LeRoy Joseph "Lucky" Moore, 78 of Hawley, passed away on Monday July 27, 2015 at his home. A celebration of his life is scheduled for Tuesday August the 4th at 11:00 am at Fort Phantom Baptist Church with David Douglas officiating. A committal service with military honors will follow at the Texas State Veteran Cemetery. Local arrangements are being handled by Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St.

LeRoy was born March 15, 1937 in Youngstown, Ohio to Walbert and Helen Elizabeth Moore. After a short time in Ohio, the family moved to Hayward, California near San Francisco so LeRoy's parents could go to work in the shipyards during WWII. Immediately after graduation from high school, LeRoy joined the Navy. After spending over eight years in the Navy, LeRoy returned home and began a career as a truck driver. LeRoy and his wife Lee had a wonderful life together in California raising seven children, but after coming to Texas nine years ago for a friend's birthday, they decided to sell everything in California and make Texas their home.

Over the last nine years have made many wonderful friends through church and their association with the Christian Motorcycle Association. LeRoy never met a stranger. He was always looking to strike up a conversation and sometimes might even end up sharing Jesus if he was given half the chance.

LeRoy leaves behind his loving wife Lee Moore, sons; Michael Leonard Norvise, Steven Wayne Norvise and Joseph Michael Moore, daughters; Patricia Ann Alemeda, Kathleen Lenna Hansen, Yvonne Delores Dobbins and Debra Lee Rilea, a brother Ray Eugene Moore, a sister Roberta as well as sixteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and many other extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.
