Janice Morton

November 3, 1928 — December 20, 2008

Janice Morton, 80, of Abilene passed away at Hendrick Medical Center on Sunday December 20th, 2008. Services are scheduled for 11:00 am Wednesday December 24th at Piersall Benton Chapel 733 Butternut St with Pastor Tim Temple officiating. Burial will follow at the Abilene City Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6-7:30 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Janice was born on November 3rd, 1928 to Seaborn H. Skelton and Essie Mae Waldrop Skelton in Winters, Texas. She was a graduate of San Angelo High School and moved to Abilene after graduation. In 1947 she married Sam A. Cornelius at the Victory Bible Center in Abilene and together they had three children, Caron, Eunice and Kevin. Sam passed away in 1961 and in 1964 she married Newton Morton and they were blessed with a daughter, Joanne.

Janice was a faithful member of the Abilene Bible Church and served as the secretary to Pastor Tim Temple for 18 years. After her retirement in 2002, she volunteered for the Hendrick Heartsaver Network and for Abilene Bible Church in the printed page ministry.

Janice will be lovingly remembered by her 3 daughters; Caron Jean and husband James of Irving, TX, Eunice Fisher of Bedford, and Joanne McCraw and husband David of Brownwood, TX, 2 brothers; Stancel Skelton and wife Jann of San Jose, CA, and Mancel Skelton and wife Bonnie of Amarillo, TX, 10 grandchildren; Laurie McDonald, Russell Stewart, Sarah Larson, Jr. Jean, Robert Jean, Julie McElderry, Jennifer Smith and Bryant, Liam and Lily McCraw, as well as 13 great-grandchildren,1 great-great grandchild and a number of very special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, a son Kevin Lyle Cornelius, two sisters; Orenta Boden and Vira Miles, two sons-in-law; Ron Hitt and David Fisher, and one grandchild; April Stewart.
