Kathryn “Katie” Smith, 88, of Abilene, passed away at a local medical center on March 29th. There will be a visitation with the family on Tuesday, March 31, from 4pm to 6pm at the Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street with a graveside service to take place on April 1, at the Iberis Cemetery at 2:00pm, under the direction of Piersall Funeral Directors.
Katie was born in Enid, Oklahoma on November 2, 1926. She graduated from High School and went to work at a pharmacy in the soda fountain as a cook. She met James "Smitty" Smith in 1948 and they were married a year later in Abilene. Through the years Katie worked the line assembling building watches and calculators for Timex and later Texas Instruments. At the age of 35, Katie and James were blessed with their only child, Charlotte.
Katie loved gardening and especially enjoyed her potted plants and flowers. She was an active member of Harvest Baptist Church until her health wouldn't allow her to attend.
Katie was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, LeRoy Douglas and a sister, Rita Trentkamp. She is survived by her husband, Smitty, her daughter Charlotte Stucker and husband Bruce, her sister, Edith Dunn and her grandchildren Bryan and Michelle Stucker as well as many other extended family member and close friends.
