Jerry Allan Anderson was born on July 9, 1944 in Ranger Texas to LaVeda and Clyde Anderson. His youth was spent in Odessa, Texas, an only child and much loved son. He graduated from Odessa High school in 1963, an honor student and a football recruit, headed to Abilene Christian College. His college years were full ones as he juggled football, his determination to continue as an honor student, and his love for a certain young lady. In 1965 he married the love of his life and life partner for 49 years, Shirley Ann Riggs. Jerry graduated Cum laude from Abilene Christian College in 1967 with a degree in accounting and he and Shirley were named ACC’s Outstanding Young Alumni couple in 1973.
Jerry excelled in his chosen field of accounting, spending time at several firms through the 70’s. Ernst and Ernst in Dallas and in Abilene at Condley & Company as a junior partner and Partner at Davis Kinard and Company. Auditing was his specialty and was a process that he perfected and eventually taught to other professionals. He co-authored several courses on compliance auditing and spent the 80’s teaching continuing professional education courses across the United States. His innovative auditing expertise later allowed him to join several firms as an expert in audit restructuring and auditing manager in Boston and Kansas City.
Jerry had many loves, but none more important than his family. Always an integral part of his families endeavors, he wore many hats. PTA president at Taylor Elementary and Franklin Middle School, baseball coach, basketball coach, softball coach, league president, booster club president and always as avid supporter. He has touched the lives of many and his larger than life West Texas persona made him hard to forget. Always willing to help, he was generous and ready to pitch in to get the job done whether that be raising money for a cause, grating the infield at the ball park or making sure everybody had the opportunity and the means to participate.
Jerry is survived by his wife Shirley, Scott and Tricia Anderson, Jody and Nicky Anderson, nine grandchildren: Chantz, Slayde, Gentri, Danielle, Riley, Austin, Dylan, Nevada, Lex’n, his faithful caretaker and friend Kim Bradshaw and a host of extended family members, old football buddies, golf partners and lifelong friends. We would like to thank Dr. Headstream, Dr. Heaven, Dr. Hart, the staff at Hendrick Hospital and the numerous visitors that have shared this journey with us. The careful attention, kind words and prayers have meant so much.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like you to consider making a donation in Jerry's honor to Hendrick Medical Center Auxiliary or Hendrick Hospice at 1900 Pine St, Abilene, Texas 79601. Condolences may be offered to the family online at www.pbfuneraldirectors.com
