Margie Le Elam, 86 of Abilene, passed away at a local nursing facility on Monday, February 2, 2015. As per her wishes, the family will conduct a private memorial service at a later date.
Margie was born on June 23, 1928 in Groom, Texas to Verle and Hazel Decker Powell. As a young professional she was working at Southwest Memorial Hospital in Amarillo where she met the love of her life, Pat Elam. Pat was working in a department store when Margie walked in and it was “love at first sight.” Pat and Margie enjoyed 56 years together. They loved to travel and enjoyed trips abroad and all over the states. Margie was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed being the wife of an elder in the Church during their time at the Des Plaines Church of Christ in the Chicago area, King of Prussia Church of Christ in King of Prussia, PA and at Walnut Street Church of Christ in Texarkana, Tx. She was the consummate hostess when entertaining guests. Margie was an elegant, Christian woman who touched many people’s lives over the years with her caring, generous and gentle, sweet spirit. Margie and Pat moved to Abilene in 2004 from Texarkana, where they attended the Hillcrest Church of Christ.
Margie was preceded in death by her beloved husband Pat, her parents, Verle and Hazel Powell, her sister and brother-in-law, Cora and James Williams. She is survived by her son Rick and his wife Kathy of Pottstown, PA, their children Ryan and his wife Rachel of Phoenixville, PA, and Brett and Madison Elam of Pottstown, PA; daughter Lisa Flores and husband Hector of Abilene and their children Kimberly Marr and husband Justin of Abilene, Laura Nolte and husband Aaron of Waco, Texas, and Heather and Cianna Flores of Abilene; Great Granddaughter, Kinsley Kate Marr, brothers Verne Powell of Boerne, Texas and Garland Powell of Washington; and sister and brother-in-law Ginger and Ralph Price of Ashdown, Arkansas. She also leaves behind nephews Dr. Patrick Williams and wife Amanda, David Price and Raymond Powell and wife Becky, nieces Margie Emig and Michelle Stewart and a host of other family members and close friends.
