Doris Nell Dukes

Doris Nell Dukes, 82 of Abilene, passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at Hendrick Medical Center. A visitation will be held on Monday, January 26, 2015 at 10:00 am at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street with a graveside service to follow at 11:30 am in the Cedar Hill Flat section of the Abilene City Cemetery.

Doris was born on December 24, 1932 in Rockdale, Texas to Vastine and Minnie Ola Adams. A graduate of I.M Terrell High School in Fort Worth, Doris attended some college at Cisco Junior College and McMurry College and also studied nursing. Doris lived in Abilene since 1963 and had many talents. She enjoyed working with her hands and put that skill to use working for Timex, sewing leather bags and working as a meat packer for Gooch Packing Company. She also liked to help people, working as a nurse's aide at the West Texas Medical Hospital and a Therapy Tech at Marbridge House. She even owned her own gift shop for a time. Doris was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She was funny and bubbly, but also enjoyed her quiet time.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Vastine and Minnie Ola Adams. She is survived by her nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
