I mourned my mother’s loss every time I went to see her. I remembered the vibrancy and the passion she had for her church, her piano pupils, her singing and a good joke. She was born Frances Adelma Renshaw in St. Catharine’s, Ontario on September 3, 1925 and died January 10, 2015. She married Albert Pittman Stroop in 1946. We called her Madame Ma-glory, or Ma-gory, as the mood took us. She taught piano to hundreds of children, including all eight of her children and grandchildren, and passionately encouraged them all to do their best. She loved to go antiquing and instilled in us the love of history of a thing. She rejoiced when she sang. She taught me to finish what I started, never give up and to always keep my word. Now I’m the grandmother, and she will ever be my model with all of our wrinkles and foibles, we will finish the race before us. We will have a memorial service in Ohio in June.
