Katherine Boyd Shannon

Katherine Boyd Shannon, 72, of Abilene passed away at Hendrick Medical Center on November 15, 2008. A service will be held at Piersall Benton Funeral Directors Chapel on Tuesday November 18th at 2:00 pm with burial to follow at Bethel Cemetery in Funston. A visitation will be held Monday from 6 to 8 pm at Piersall Benton Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St.

Katherine Elizabeth Shannon was born to Newt McDonald and Nola Roberts McDonald on February 12th, 1936 in Abilene, Texas. She spent nearly all of her life in Abilene, attending school, working as manager of Dairy Land, cooking for several nursing homes and raising her family. She was a great cook and she loved to sing and dance. Her passion though, was her faith. She was an avid reader of the Bible as well as a minister of the Pentecostal church.

Katherine is survived by her daughters; Debra Rudder and husband Wayne of Abilene, Delena McLemore of Cleburne, and Melissa Daniels and husband Charlie of Abilene, a brother; Jerry Don McDonald and wife Toni of Abilene, six grandchildren; Cathy Young and husband Mark, Namon Kanady, Ashley and Shannon Brown, and Jessica Woodall all of Abilene, and Dede Braswell and husband Glenn of Cleburne as well as four special family members she considered grandchildren Cody, Jeremy, and Amanda McDonald and Crystal Parks all of Abilene. She will also be remembered by numerous friends and extended family members as well as several great grandchildren that were her pride and joy. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband O.P. Shannon, a brother Richard McDonald, three children Emmitt Boyd, Clayburn Boyd, and Darrell Boyd and one grandson Emmitt Ray Riddle.
