Lottie Darlene (Townsend) Crumpler
August 15, 1945 – January 8, 2015
Darlene Crumpler was born on August 15, 1945 in Ranger, Texas to Jack and Fannie Mae Townsend. She was raised and attended school in Cisco where she graduated from high school in 1963. Darlene married Ronny Crumpler on February 9, 1964 in Cisco, Texas. They lived in Anson, Texas one year then moved to Abilene, Texas. They also lived in Colorado City, Snyder and Big Springs, Texas then moved back to Abilene in 1974.
Darlene was a homemaker most of her married life, and was active in her daughters’ activities. She was also very active in her church, Southern Hills Church of Christ, and enjoyed serving in many different areas of ministry.
On July 16, 1998, Darlene received a heart transplant on which she survived 16 ½ years. She passed from this life surrounded by her family on January 8, 2015 at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, Texas after being there for 9 ½ weeks upon her diagnosis with cancer this past October.
Darlene was preceded in death by her mother, Fannie Mae Townsend, father, Jack Townsend, sister, Myra Scarborough, brother, Bob Townsend and nephew, Rodney Scarborough.
Darlene is survived by her husband of over 50 years, Ronny Crumpler, two daughters, Sheila Hilburn and her husband, Wes of Abilene, Texas, and Cindy Allen and her husband, Jason, of Midlothian, Texas, four grandchildren, Cameron and Mikayla Hilburn of Abilene, Texas, and Kyle and Kailee Allen of Midlothian, Texas, her sister Drucilla Blanding of Eastland, Texas, brother, Rex Townsend and his wife, Phyllis, of Burleson Texas, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 4:00pm – 6:00pm Sunday, January 11, at Piersall Benton Funeral Home in Abilene, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Monday, January 12, at Southern Hills Church of Christ in Abilene, Texas,3666 Buffalo Gap Road. Graveside services will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery in Anson immediately following the funeral service.
