Donna Lee Peter

Donna Lee Roderick Peter, 80 of Abilene, passed away at Hendrick Medical Center on November 22, 2014. A memorial service has already been held at the chapel of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.

Donna was born on September 24, 1934 in Ann Arbor, Michigan to Joseph and Lucille Roderick. She was the only girl out of seven children. After living in Ann Arbor for seven years, the family moved to Pueblo, Colorado. It was there, some years later, that Donna married Carl McDowell and they were blessed with five children; Lucille, Daniel, Patricia, Blanche and Vickie Jo. The family would relocate to West Virginia, but would eventually move back to Pueblo, where Donna had two more children; John and Shauna. Donna and her daughter, Pat would later come to Abilene to live, for a short time, with Vicki Jo and her husband Leo Buchanan. For the remainder of her life, Donna lived under the loving care of her daughter, Pat and her granddaughters, Alicia and Jessica.

Donna loved her chocolate and her ice cream, and really loved chocolate on her ice cream; she loved her pets: four cats and two Chihuahuas and she loved her church family at Highland Church of Christ. For the last 13 years, Donna attended church at Highland and credits her church family for changing her life. Her greatest joy came from her Sunday school class. She never wanted to miss it.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents and her six brothers. She is survived by her children, 17 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and many wonderful friends.
