Sia Kollie

October 12, 1976 — October 22, 2014

Sia Kollie was born on October 12, 1976 in Foya, Lofa, Liberia to Kumba Sata and Hillie Keltor. She died following a lengthy illness in Abilene, Texas on October 22, 2014, just a few weeks past her 38th birthday.

Sia and Prince Kollie moved to the United States from west Africa on March 28, 2007, with their children, Patricia, Finda, Abraham and Maranma. Their youngest daughter, Ruth, was born shortly after their arrival in Abilene.

Sia was a beautiful, compassionate woman who deeply loved her family and friends. She welcomed people with her bright smile and generous hospitality. Though Sia adopted Texas as her new home, she kept her African heritage alive through her love of storytelling, singing, dancing and cooking food native to her homeland.

Courageous and strong-willed are words that describe Sia. She had the strength to move across the world so her children would be safe and have new opportunities. She bravely faced chronic illness, determined to care for her family no matter what came their way.

Faith was a guiding force in Sia’s life, and she was an active member of Highland Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her father, her brothers Georgie, Prince and Yama, and her daughter, Kumba. She is survived by her beloved children, her grandchildren Derick and Angel (children of Patricia and Joseph), her brothers Amos and Kato, and her sisters Alice and Sita.

Many friends and extended family from around the world mourn her passing.

A celebration service will be held at 10:00 am Monday, October 27th at Highland Church of Christ with a graveside to follow at Abilene City Cemetery under the direction of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St. A visitation will be held Sunday evening from 5-7 pm at the funeral home. Condolences may be offer to the family online at www.pbfuneraldirectors.com.
