Hershel Eugene White, Sr, 81 of Abilene, passed away at a local care facility on October 21, 2014. A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 24, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Albany Cemetery.
Hershel was born on September 15, 1933 in New Hope, Arkansas to Jewell and Estelle White. Growing up on a farm, Hershel learned to work with his hands; a skill that would serve him well in his lifetime. After he graduated from High School, Hershel enlisted in the Navy and served for 3 years during the Korean conflict, until his honorable discharge in 1954.
Hershel would spend the majority of his life as a mechanic, working and traveling around the country to support his family. He and Joyce, his wife of 28 years, finally settled in Abilene where they lived until Joyce’s passing in May 2014. Hershel then moved to University Place Senior Living Center.
Hershel was preceded in death by his parents, Jewell and Estelle White, his wife, Joyce, brother Otemis White, sister Thelma Parker and a son, William White. He is survived by sons Gene White, Jr. and his wife, Irene of Seymour, Texas and James White of Lubbock, brother Barney White and his wife Jewell of Texarkana, Arkansas, six grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
