Richard Lee Mims, 59, of QJTASSKK (Quincy, Jake, Tisha, Angela, Stephanie, Sandra, Keith, Kimberly) Ranch passed away peacefully in Abilene, Texas, Monday October 20, 2014.

Richard was born on August 18, 1955, in Autauga County, Alabama to the late Eli Mims and Esther Mims. Richard attended Cobb Avenue High School in Anniston, Alabama. He entered the United States Air Force in 1975 and served six years. Richard played Semi-Pro football while stationed at Karamursel, Turkey. After his military service, Richard became a weapons shipper for Anniston Army Depot in the weapons division. Richard attended Gadsden State Community College, where he received an Associates degree. He became a counselor for Woods (Arcadia) Psychiatric Institute. Richard became an Inspector for Lockheed Martin for several years then finished his working career as a purchaser for the Department of Defense.

Richard loved God, his wife, being on the ranch tending to his horses, his show cars, traveling, his mother, children and grandchildren. Richard will be dearly missed by all the friends that he met and loved.

Richard was preceded in death by his father Eli Mims, brother Anthony Tyrone Mims, and son Quincy Smith. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 35 plus years, Sandra J. Mims Sr., his wonderful mother, Esther V. Mims, of Birmingham Alabama, two sons, Gerren Keith Mims ( Kaori) of Atlanta, Georgia/Japan and Jake Curry (Kaylee) of Lubbock, Texas; five daughters, Stephanie (Vaughn) Bridgeport, Connecticut; Kimberly Mims (Fiancé Ryan Anthony Watson) of Brooklyn, New York; Angela Staples (Maurice Dickinson) of Abilene, Texas; Sandra J. Mims Jr. (John Renfro) of Abilene, Texas and Goddaughter Latisha London (Kauwuane Burton) of Dallas, Texas; two nephews, Eric Mims and Anthony Mims of Birmingham, Alabama. Sixteen beautiful grandchildren; a host of aunts, cousins, friends and extended family.

There will be a visitation on Thursday evening, October 30, from 6-8 pm at the Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St., Abilene, Texas. The funeral service will be at 11am on Friday in the Piersall Chapel with military honors to follow at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery.
