William Leon Robinson

William Leon Robinson, 72, or Abilene, passed away at his home on October 13, 2014. Interment will be Friday, October 17 at 2:00 p.m. at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery of Abilene.

William was born on January 7, 1942 in Enid, Oklahoma to Charles and Pearl Robinson. After high school and some college, William enlisted in the United States Navy and served in Vietnam. He spent the next 22 years in the Navy, working on ships and in submarines as an Internal Communications Technician, and obtained the rank of Chief before retiring in 1980. William then began working in various industries and manufacturing plants before landing a job with Zoltek in St. Louis, Missouri. When Zoltek opened a plant in Abilene, William accepted a transfer and was the Maintenance Supervisor until his retirement in 2005.

William was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Pearl Robinson, and by his brothers, Robert Dale Robinson and Charles Robinson, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Barbara Jean Robinson; daughter Melissa Sumpter and husband Chris of New Haven, Missouri; son Richard Robinson and wife Kacee of Abilene; sons William L. Robinson, Jr of Dallas and Derrick Robinson of Odessa; daughters Carrie Day and husband Bill of Big Lake, Texas and Jelene Ballard and husband Mike of Odessa; 21 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
