John Truman Ratliff, 72 of Abilene, passed away at his home on Saturday, September 27. A visitation with the family will be on Monday, September 29 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street. Services will be Tuesday, September 30 at 2:00 p.m. at the Broadview Baptist Church, 2500 S. 27th Street.
Truman was born in Royston, Texas on June 19, 1942 to John and Gertrude Ratliff. The family moved to Abilene when Truman was a young boy and he graduated from Abilene High in 1960. On March 21, 1964, Truman married Patsy Elaine McCoy. They were married for 50 years and were blessed with three children; Monty, Cody and Kristy. Truman was a brick mason by trade and worked in that profession for 40 years. In 1990, Truman went to work for the Abilene State School and worked there until his retirement in 2010.
Truman loved to ride horses, fish and hunt in his younger years and always loved a good joke. He made many wonderful memories with his children and grand children. His greatest joy came from spoiling his grand children and loving his wife.
Truman was preceded in death by his parents, John and Gertrude Ratliff, his sister Wanda Freeman, son, Monty Ratliff, his nephew Donald Freeman, Jr., and his brother-in-law Don Freeman. Truman is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patsy Ratliff of Abilene, daughter Kristy Borton and her husband Bryan of Abilene, son Cody Ratliff of Abilene, his father and mother-in-law, Gene and Alice McCoy of Abilene, nephew Scott Freeman and his wife Angie of Lubbock, Texas, five grandchildren; Crystal Baima and husband Christopher of Bakersfield, California, Taleena Ratliff and husband Ivar Patrizi of Abilene, Johnathon Ratliff of Abilene, Kayleb McKelvain of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and Shelby Borton of Abilene, and three great grandchildren
