Mona Lorraine Cox Mullins faithfully finished her spiritual race early Saturday morning, August 16, 2014, passing peacefully, fully assured of her favor with her Heavenly Father and the passionate affection of her family.
Known as “Granna” to her family and “Mrs. Mullins” to hundreds of students she encountered throughout a long teaching career in Abilene, Mona was simply ready: ready to see God, ready to rest for a while, ready to show her family how to exit this life with peace, contentment and joy.
Her passing is bittersweet for her family and friends: bitter is our loss - but sweet is her gain.
Mona was born August 21, 1932 in Abilene to Alva Clinton and Mona Yarbrough Cox, who preceded her in death, as well as her brothers A.C. Cox Jr, Richard Cox, and Jim Bob Cox, and her sister Anna Reed.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Jerry Mullins, Sr., two sons, Jerry Mullins Jr and wife Shirla, and Lanny Mullins and wife Rhonda, three grandchildren, Jay Neil Mullins and wife Leah, Janna Nicole Churchill and husband Chris, and Christina Mullins, and four great-grandsons, Jack and Sam Mullins, and Camp and Cash Churchill.
Interment will be 10:00 AM Tuesday morning at Elmwood Memorial Park, with a memorial service to follow at 11 AM in the chapel at University Church of Christ under the direction of Piersall Funeral Directors. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, the University Church of Christ, or Christian Service Center of Abilene.
