Lola Margaret Randel nee Phillips of Abilene, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 from congestive heart failure.

The funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Piersall-Benton Funeral Home, 733 Butternut, Abilene, Texas. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM on Friday, June 13, 2014 at Piersall-Benton Funeral Home, 733 Butternut, Abilene, Texas. Burial will follow the funeral at Elmwood Memorial Cemetery.

Margaret was born in Ft. Worth, Texas on April 13, 1936. The daughter of Clay and Margaret Phillips, she grew up in Granbury, Texas and graduated from Granbury High School in 1954. Following high school, Margaret studied nursing at St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Ft. Worth, Texas receiving her certification as a Registered Nurse in 1957.
Following her training, Margaret worked as a nurse for St. Joseph’s & the Veterans Affairs Hospitals in Ft. Worth and Amarillo Texas until 1960 when she “retired” for a career as a full time wife and mother.

While at St. Joseph’s, Margaret met and married Dr. Joe Randel in 1958. They remained together for 53 years – raising four children – until Joe preceded her in death in 2011.

Outside of her family and home, Margaret was an active member of her community in the Abilene Bible Church, the Texas Medical Association’s Woman’s Auxiliary (now known as the TMA Alliance), Abilene Woman’s Club, and Thursday Forum Study Group.

Margaret is survived and fondly remembered by daughters Mary Margaret Robison and husband A.W. of Abilene, and Jo Martha Randel of Orlando, Florida, sons; Dr. Mark Randel and wife Karla of Nacogdoches, Texas, and Dr. Jonathan Randel and wife Lisa of Atlanta, Georgia as well as ten grandchildren; Clay Randel, Joseph Randel, Phillip Randel, Elizabeth Randel, Pearson Randel, Bethany Randel, Quinn Randel, Alexandra Robison, Sam Randel, and Maggie Randel and other family and friends.
