Sherry DeGroff, 67 of Abilene, passed away at a local hospital on February the 19th. A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, February 24th in Cedar Hill Cemetery. A visitation will be held Sunday from 6-8pm at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St.
Sherry was born in Richmond, Missouri on December 6, 1946 to Eugene and Gladys Vermillion Corbin. She grew up in Phoenix, AZ where she graduated from High School. After high school she went on to nursing school in Andrews, Texas where she met her husband James "Jerry" De Groff. Through the years Sherry worked in hospitals, home health agencies and nursing homes as an LVN. She truly loved taking care of people and particularly enjoyed caring for the elderly. Her commitment to caring for others was second to none and she always put others needs before her own.
Surviving Sherry are her husband Jerry, sons, Clifford Dickinson and Heath Dickinson and wife Deanne, daughter Lisa Cowley and husband Russell, brother Leon Corbin and wife Linda, sisters; Marie Corbin, Rosemary Hunter and Donna Shelton, grandchildren Corbin and Katherine Dickinson and Matt and Ashley as well as many other extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
