Effie Lee Jones, 87, passed away on June 18, 2008, at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, Texas where she had lived with her daughter for the past 14 months.

Funeral services will be held at Manhattan Heights Church of Christ Saturday June 21st at 10:00 am with burial to follow in Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home. A visitation will be held from 6-8 pm Friday at the funeral home.

On September 28, 1920, Effie Lee Wright was born to Dan and Berdia Wright in rural Hillsboro, Texas. Most of her youth was spent in East Texas. She graduated from Grandview High School. She married Verge Jones Sr. on May 23, 1940 in Cleburne and to this union nine children were born. Effie was baptized at 20th and Birch Church of Christ, and later moved her membership to the Northside Church of Christ. Effie was a loving and caring person who was always doing something for family and friends. She loved to gather family at her home. Her generosity was widespread. Her favorite gifts were homemade cakes. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, only brother Willie Wright and her daughter Berdia Jackson. Effie is survived by her daughters Wilma Jean Jones of Dallas, Pearlie Mae Crittenden of Austin, Ruby Nell McKnight of Austin, Katherine Stevenson of Abilene, Carolyn Jones of Arlington, and her sons Verge Jones Jr. of Arlington, Bobby Lee Jones of Dallas, and Curtis Wayne Jones of Lubbock. Effie Lee Jones had 30 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, one niece, one nephew, and a host of other relatives and friends.
