John H. Harrison

John Harrison of Lincoln, Nebraska, originally of Abilene, TX, passed away on December 9, 2013 after a successful career and active retirement, volunteering at his church and other local organizations.

John was born on September 29, 1939 in Abilene to Hulon and Anna Lee Harrison. He attended Abilene schools and graduated from Abilene High School in 1957. While at Abilene High, John played on the 1956 and 1957 State Championship Baseball Teams. He went on to graduate from Hardin Simmons University where he played baseball and was involved with ROTC. Because of his involvement with ROTC John decided to enlist in the Army and he served at Fort Lee, Virginia. After his time in the service John became involved in the insurance business which took him to Dallas, San Antonio, Cleveland, Omaha and ultimately to Lincoln. John was devoted to his wife, family, and friends. He will be dearly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Rita; children: Sean and wife Kimberly, Lisa Sillman and husband Todd, Jeff Spicka, and Cheryl Biesterfeld and husband Joe; ten grandchildren; sister Dorothy Wimberley and husband Paul; brother Charles and wife Lorna; mother-in-law Mae Isaacson; sister-in-law Adelyn Scripter and husband Jim; brother-in-law Ken Isaacson and wife Elberta; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:30 am on Wednesday Dec. 18 at the Tecumseh Cemetery, County Road 226, Clyde, under the direction of Piersall - Benton Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St. Reception and Luncheon to follow at 1:00pm at Zion Lutheran Church, 2801 Antilley Rd, Abilene.
