Linda Jean Lynd

Linda Jean Porter Lynd, 70 of Abilene, passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at Hendrick Medical Center. A reception and visitation will be held at noon on Monday, December 2, 2013 at Westgate Church of Christ with service to follow at 1:30pm. The burial will be at 3:00pm in the Texas State Veteran Cemetery at Abilene.


Linda was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on May 29, 1943 to Harry and Eva Grace Porter. Their family moved several times while Linda was growing up but she graduated from Norton High School and went on to attend Abilene Christian College. While in Abilene she met Chester Lynd and they were married in San Antonio. They enjoyed nearly 50 years of marriage together and have spent all those years in Abilene. Linda was an active member of Westgate Church of Christ and a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister. Over the years Linda worked in several places including a T, G, and Y Variety Store, managed several convenient stores, and worked as an aide for Abilene ISD for fourteen years.


Linda is survived by her husband Chester Lynd, two sons; Coby Lynd and Curtis Lynd and wife Alicia, two daughters; Lori Gutierrez and husband Joe and Veronica Qualley, three brothers; Robert Porter and wife Lillian, Lewis Porter, and David Porter and wife Dena, a sister Marcella Porter, two grandchildren that she raised; Billy Joe Lynd and Arieal Lynd and six grandchildren; Kaleigh and Darrien Gutierrez, Richard Ford, Sheri Lynd and Kylan and Trista as well as several other extended family members and close friends. Preceding Linda in death are her parents, a brother, Harry Brown Porter, Jr., a sister, Harriet Stevens and her husband Bill, and a granddaughter, Whisper.
