Gladys Beatrice (Waggoner) Holt was born January 2, 1913, in Callahan County, Texas to Arthur Monroe Waggoner and Emily O'Della (Conlee) Waggoner. She died in Abilene, Texas on October 3, 2013, surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 6, 2013 at Piersall-Benton Funeral Directors chapel, located at 733 Butternut, Abilene, Texas, with Dr. Phil Christopher officiating. A visitation is scheduled for Saturday, October 5, 2013, from 3-5 p.m. at the funeral home. A private family burial will be Monday, October 7, 2013 at Elmwood Memorial Park.

Gladys married Clarence T Holt on July 14, 1929, at the ranch home of Russell and Mary M. Morrissette in Hamby, Texas. They were members of Hamby Church of Christ. Gladys became a rancher's wife and spent the next 36 years being a helpmate, "hired hand," mechanic and incredible cook on ranches in Texas, South Dakota and Oklahoma. In 1965, Gladys and Clarence returned to Abilene. A life-long love of dancing led them to become members of the Cowboy Christmas Ball Association in Anson, Texas. After Clarence's death in 1985, Gladys continued to be a member of the Association and was honored there last December just before her 100th birthday. Gladys was an active member of the Rose Park Senior Citizens Center and the VFW Auxiliary for many years. She continued with her love of dancing until a broken hip forced her to retire in her early 90s.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son-in-law, Dub Vinson, her beloved grandson, Rick Vinson, her brother, James M. Waggoner and his wife, Anne, nephew David Waggoner and nieces, Beverly Waggoner Vowell and Billie Sue Waggoner.
She is survived by the family she loved so much which includes daughter Virginia Vinson, daughter Betty Jo Burton, son-in-law Bob Burton, grandchildren Ronnie Vinson, Barbara Vinson Fahrlender, Bobby J. Burton, Beth Burton, Billy Burton, Belinda Burton Wise, Bettina Burton Collins, 16 great grandchildren and 23 great-great grandchildren. She also leaves behind many other extended family members and a host of friends who loved her dearly.

The family wishes to extend their love and thanks to the staff of Wisteria Place Rehab and Hospice of the Big Country for the amazing love and care given to our Grannie during the last 4 months.
