Velta Naomi Scarborough

Velta Naomi Scarborough, 81 of Abilene, passed away at Hendrick Medical Center on September 26, 2013. A service will be held at 10:30 am Monday, September 30, 2013 at Broadview Baptist Church, 2500 South 27th St., with burial to follow at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery of Abilene. A visitation with the family will be held Sunday the 29th from 2-4 pm at Piersall Benton Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St.

Naomi was born June 9, 1932 in Abilene, Texas to Alphus (Boss) and Dixie Underwood. On October 30, 1953, Naomi married A.C. Scarborough in Abilene and together they raised three children, Charles, Richard and Debra. She spent 22 years working for the Abilene State Supported Living Center as well as Bairds Bakery, Wilson & Company and Timex. Naomi loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Preceding Naomi in death were her parents, two sisters; Dorothy Clements and Cloie Fredeck, and six brothers; Melford, Clifford J, John, Donald, Alvis and Eldon Underwood. She is survived by her husband A.C., two sons; Charles and wife Kathleen and Richard and wife Sherry, a daughter, Debra Schroeder and husband Steve; grandchildren, Keri Lewis, Stacy Abbott, Kristy Owens, Shane Scarborough, Misty Scarborough, Brandon Scarborough, Ashlee Scarborough, Brent Schroeder and Tyler Schroeder as well as 13 great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Mary Hernandez for her incredible compassion and care as well as Lecia, Eva and Gloria at Hendrick Hospice and granddaughter Keri Lewis.
