John Hubbard Alvis II, 53, a life-long Abilene resident, passed away August 11, 2013, in Las Vegas, Nevada. There will be a memorial service to celebrate his life at the First Baptist Church in Abilene with Phil Christopher presiding on Friday August 23rd at 12:30 pm. Local arrangements are being handled by Piersall-Benton Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.
John was born May 26, 1960 to Robert and Patricia Alvis in Abilene, Texas. He attended Abilene schools and graduated from Cooper High School. He went on to attend Southern Methodist University and ultimately graduated with a degree in business from Hardin-Simmons University . He went on to acquire his series seven license which he used in his work as an independent financial consultant.
John married Susan Edwards in the backyard of his parents on August 18, 1983 and together they had three incredible boys. Much of John's life was dedicated to family. Over the years John spent countless hours coaching or watching his three sons play virtually every sport imaginable. Together they would spend time traveling, going to Wet and Wild, and when they couldn't go out of town they would go to the Abilene Country Club pool.
Surviving John are his wife Susan of Abilene, sons; Sean and John III of Abilene, sister Kelly Boyd and husband Michael of Houston and two grandchildren, Kail Alexander Alvis and Taylor Michael Alvis. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Daniel Taylor Alvis and a brother Robert Alvis.
