John Loya Campos, 63 passed away Saturday August the 17th, 2013 at the VA hospital in Big Spring. A visitation and memorial service will be held Tuesday evening August 20th from 6-8 pm in the chapel at Piersall Benton Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St in Abilene with Chaplain Colonel Juan Loya, US Army (Retired) presiding. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am, Friday August 23, 2013 at the Texas State Veteran Cemetery in Abilene.
John was born to Francisco and Rosa Campos on March 28, 1950 in Abilene, Texas. He was raised in Abilene and graduated from Abilene High School. After graduation he enlisted in the Army and honorably served our nation in active duty as a paratrooper in the Vietnam War. Once John was discharged from service, he worked in many different Texas communities in auto body repair and home renovation.
For the last five years John has lived in Big Spring, Texas. John enjoyed playing the guitar and teaching people how to play. He never met a stranger and once he was a friend, he was a friend for life. He was dearly loved by his family and will truly be missed.
Surviving John is his mother Rosa Campos of Garland, sons; Elias Campos of San Angelo and Kaspar Campos of Smithville, a daughter, Tabitha Campos of Smithville, brothers; Alfredo Campos (Mary) of Abilene, Phillip Campos (Angie) of Garland, Jesse Campos and Daniel Campos, sisters; Linda Garcia (Leonard) of Sweetwater and Amelia Velasquez (Juan) of Garland, as well as many other extended family and close friends. He was preceded in death by his father Francisco Campos, a brother Juan Campos and sister-in-law, Sarah Campos.
