Robert "Bob" Gene Keith

Robert “Bob” Gene Keith, 75 of Abilene, passed away Sunday July 28, 2013. A service of remembrance is scheduled for 2:00 pm Thursday August the 1st in the Piersall Benton chapel, 733 Butternut St with a reception to follow in the greatroom of the funeral home.

Robert Gene Keith was born June 17, 1938 in Abilene, Texas to Alexander and Christine Bryson Keith. He grew up in Abilene and attended Abilene schools. Bob left Abilene to join the Navy and spent nearly 10 years in the service before moving back.

On June 12, 1974 Bob married Virginia “Jeannie” Baucum in Abilene and together they raised three children Randy, John Glenn and Bridgett. Bob loved spending time working in the yard and gardening. He was an avid fisherman, a history buff and loved watching all kinds of sporting events. Bob enjoyed time with his family and was a very proud grandfather.

Preceding Bob in death were his parents, two brothers; Ronnal and David Keith and sisters Mary Sissom and Billie Merrideth. He is survived by his loving wife Jeannie, two sons; Randy Legate and partner Kim Stinnett and John Glenn Legate and wife Pam, a daughter Bridgett Gann and husband Bob all of Abilene, a brother Leonard Keith and wife Marlene of Arlington, sisters-in-law, Patsy Keith, Patricia Phillips and partner Harvey Nichols all of Abilene and Barbara Baucum of Lubbock and three grandchildren; Robert Keith II and Cody Legate both of Abilene and Shelby Legate of Lubbock. In addition, Bob is survived by his beloved dog Pepe as well as many nieces, nephews and close friends.
