Tamanika "Nikki" Luann Newton, 21 of Abilene, passed away at her home on June 13, 2013. A service is scheduled for 10:00 am Tuesday June 18, 2013 at the Highland Church of Christ Auditorium with burial to follow at Elmwood Memorial Park. A visitation will be held Monday evening from 6-8 pm at Piersall Benton Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St.
Nikki was born in Camden, New Jersey on December 8, 1991. She moved to Abilene at young age and was adopted by Gordon and Tommie Newton when she was just 2 1/2 years old. She was raised in Abilene and graduated from Abilene High School where she excelled at gymnastics. Nikki graduated from cosmetology school and truly loved being creative with peoples nails and seeing them smile at the work she had done. She loved to sing and dance and had a giving spirit that radiated along with her beautiful smile. Nikki loved spending time with her family and was glad to be dubbed the “transportation director for the family”.
From an early age Nikki was a member of Highland Church of Christ and was active in the youth program there. She loved her God and that was apparent in her daily interactions with people. Nikki made a difference in the lives of others and she will be dearly missed.
Surviving Nikki are her parents, Gordon and Tommie Newton, brothers; Matt Newton and wife Kristi, Preston Newton and wife Evie , Zachary Newton and sisters; Shelli Davis and husband Rodney, Trisha Ashford and husband Prentice, Annie, Kendra and Katie Newton. She is also survived by her beloved nieces; Hannah, Abby and Lily Davis, Katherine, Patterson and Alex Newton and Hayleigh Grant, and nephews: Louis Newton and Hayden Grant. Preceding Nikki in death was a brother, David Newton.
