Lane C. Herttenberger

December 8, 1955 — March 14, 2013

Lane C. Herttenberger, 57, of Abilene passed away on March 14, 2013. The family is celebrating his entry into life eternal with his God and Savior. There will be a visitation Sunday, March 17th from 3-5pm at the Piersall Funeral Home on 733 Butternut Street. A service will be held on Monday, March 18th at the University Church of Christ at 11am. A burial will follow at the Rule Cemetery at 3pm.

Lane was born December 8, 1955 in Alamogordo, New Mexico to Malcolm Herttenberger and Maxine Casey Herttenberger. He was raised in Rule, Texas and graduated from high school there. Lane had many interests but much of his life was spent raising a family, being a great husband and a sweet father. He had a keen eye for remodeling homes to either sell or rent on his own timing, a leverage he used to have more time with his family.

Lane was the spouse God had prepared for Cathy de la Cruz of the Philippines. They met at the Hollywood Church of Christ when he lived in California in 1982. They were married at the Hollywood Church of Christ on November 6, 1982 and celebrated 30 years together last fall. After marriage they moved to Rule and shortly thereafter to Abilene where they have lived for nearly 29 years. They have been active members of the University Church of Christ since 1985.

Lane's real passion was people. He never met a stranger. He loved being around others and made everyone feel special. That love of people was carried into other hobbies, such as fishing, boating, cars, amateur radio, and singing and playing the guitar for his family and friends.

His father and a brother, Barry, preceded Lane in death. He left behind his mother, Maxine; wife, Cathy; daughters Holly Herttenberger of Abilene, Kelli Knight and husband Jeff of Austin; as well as a grandchild that is on the way. Lane will be greatly missed by his many extended family members and close friends.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Christian Service Center 901 Mesquite St. Abilene 79601, University Church of Christ Mission Fund 733 EN 16th St. Abilene 79601, or the Herald of Truth P.O.
