Toni Suzanne Garza, 61, of Hawley passed away at a local medical center, on February 3, 2013, after a short illness. There will be a visitation on February 8, from 4:00pm-5:30pm at the Piersall Benton Funeral Home 733 Butternut Street with a service on Saturday the 9th at 10:00am. The burial will be at the Bethel Cemetery in Funston, Texas.
Toni was born to J.L. Hargrove and Lavada Swinson Hargrove in Stamford, Texas. She graduated from High School and worked for several years with the West Texas Services for the Deaf. Toni has been active in the deaf congregation at South 11th and Willis Church of Christ. She married Fernanado (Fred) Garza in 1980 in Houston, Texas.
Toni loved the deaf community because they were family to her. Spending time with them at deaf events was so special to her. She was so grateful to be able to socialize with the families, friends and associated business people throughout her life.
She was also very active in setting up deaf events at Christmas, Thanksgiving, Halloween, and the summer deaf picnic. She was also involved with KODA (Kids of Deaf Adults).
She didn’t have children of her own, but she often said that God’s gift to her was families that shared their children and grandchildren with her. She loved them dearly. She loved to watch cooking and home remodeling shows on tv, too.
Toni is survived by her husband Fred Garza of Hawley, a brother Danny Hargrove and wife Vickie, a nephew Derek Hargrove and wife Rebecca and their daughter Lilli. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lavada Hargrove, father, J.L. Hargrove, who passed away the same day she did and a sister Deanna Kay Hargrove. Toni will be lovingly remembered by many other relatives and dear friends who will miss her greatly.
Donations in Toni’s name may be made to the West Texas Rehab or www.deafnetwork.com. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.pbfuneraldirectors.com.
