Donald "Don" Wesley Clowdus

Donald (Don) Wesley Clowdus, 80, Abilene Texas, beloved husband and best friend of Kay Lynn (Perry) Clowdus for 52 years, passed away peacefully surrounded by the ones he laughed with, lived for, and loved on January 16, 2013.

He was predeceased by his sister June Neill and parents John Wesley Clowdus and Georgia Faye (Lankford) Clowdus.

Don was born in Abilene, Texas where he lived most of his life. He served as a dedicated member of the United States Navy, which he joined in 1950 during the Korean War. He was based at Barbers Point Naval station in Hawaii and was honorably discharged in1953.
Don owned and operated DeLuxe Cleaners in Abilene for 40 years. He later worked for Les White Music for 15 years, retiring in December 2009. In his retirement he enjoyed refurbishing and restoring furniture.

Don was a lover of the outdoors. He enjoyed everything from water and snow skiing to skin diving, bass fishing, and deer hunting, but he especially loved walking behind his hunting buddy, Angel, an English Setter, watching her work on quail and pheasant hunts. After Angel’s death, the hunts were not as enjoyable for him. Don was a quiet man, who preferred to be in the back ground, but was a true and steadfast source of strength for everyone.

Along with his wife Kay Lynn Clowdus of Abilene, Don is survived by his children, Paula Clowdus of Abilene and Scott Clowdus of Abilene along with many relatives and friends.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the members of the Abilene Regional Hospital Intensive Care Unit Staff and Apogee doctors and staff. Their dedication and effort to provide quality care over the final few days were a heartwarming blessing to the entire family. We thank God for the gift of his life and the blessing of the time we spent with him.

Public visitation will be on Friday, January 18, 2013 at Piersall Funeral Home from 6pm-8pm. A memorial service will be held honoring Don on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Piersall Funeral Home Chapel, 733 Butternut, Abilene. Trace Michaels will officiate. Burial will be at Merkel Cemetery following the chapel service.
