Mary Ruth (Etter) Pruitt

Mary Ruth (Etter) Pruitt passed away on Wednesday, February 6, 2008
at Hendrick Medical Center. A graveside service will be held at
11:00 a.m. Monday, February 11, 2008 at Elmwood Memorial Park
under the direction of Piersall-Benton Funeral Directors. Reverend V. R. Whittington will officiate.

Mary was born in San Saba, Texas on October 20, 1916 to Clarence Doane and Mary Etta (Mauldin) Etter. She married Murl Londas Pruitt in Coleman, Texas on May 6, 1934. The family moved from Brownwood to Abilene in 1938.

She attended the Brownwood, Texas public schools and nursing school at Hendrick Memorial Hospital. Before retiring from nursing, she worked at Cox Hospital, at Hendrick Memorial Hospital, and as a private duty nurse.

Mary was a Baptist and a member of the First Baptist Church in Abilene. She was a member of the Queen Esther Chapter #833 of the Eastern Star and she received her Fifty Year Membership Certificate in 2000. She had also been active in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, the American Business Women's Association, and the United Daughter's of the Confederacy.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years; her parents; her sisters, Jessie Anne Etter and Juanita Louise Balch; and her brothers, Samuel Robert Etter and George Taylor Etter. Survivors include two sons, Jerry Murl Pruitt and Donald Gene Pruitt, both of Abilene; four grandchildren; and one great grandson.
